GEO score: how ready is your business to be recommended by AI assistants?

The GEO score is a free 12-question self-assessment. It shows how easily ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI-generated summaries (AI Overviews) can understand and cite you, in other words what you already have in place for GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), meaning optimization for AI assistants. Answer yes, partly or no, and you instantly get a score out of 100 and the first three things to fix.

Answer honestly, nobody is watching

If you don't know the answer, choose "No". Each question comes with a short explanation: why it matters and what you can do if it's missing.

Your score updates after each answer.

Business identity: do AI assistants know who you are?
Do you have a complete Google Business Profile, updated in the last 3 months?
Why it matters

Google Business Profile is one of the first sources AI assistants and AI Overviews draw on for information about local businesses: category, opening hours, reviews. With an empty or outdated profile, you become invisible for questions like "which business in my town…".

Are your business name, address and phone number identical on your website, Google, Facebook and in directories?
Why it matters

AI models trust information more when several independent sources confirm it. When they find two phone numbers or two different addresses, they are no longer sure it is the same business.

Does your website have structured data (schema) that describes the business and points to its official profiles?
Why it matters

Structured data tells search engines and AI models, in a standard format, who you are, what you do and where. The sameAs field links your website to your official profiles, so they are all recognized as the same entity.

Is your business mentioned on credible outside websites: local press, industry directories, associations?
Why it matters

When putting a recommendation together, an AI assistant looks for sources that confirm what you say about your business. Outside mentions prove you exist beyond your own website.

Content: do AI assistants have something to cite?
Does every important service have its own page, with the direct answer in the first lines?
Why it matters

Models pick up short passages that answer the question exactly. A general page with all your services mixed together is hard to cite for a precise question.

Do you publish prices or price ranges, or explain clearly what they depend on?
Why it matters

Questions about cost are among the most common. If the model finds no price information on your website, it cites someone else who provides it.

Do your service pages have real FAQs with short answers?
Why it matters

People ask AI assistants questions the way they would speak. If the same question appears on your website with a clear answer, you have a better chance of being the source that gets cited.

Have you received reviews in the last 3 months, and do you reply to them?
Why it matters

Reviews say something about a business's reputation, and AI assistants often summarize them in their answers. Old reviews or unanswered ones give the impression of an inactive business.

Technical: can AI crawlers read your website?
Is your important information written as text on the page, not only in images, PDFs or sliders?
Why it matters

Many AI crawlers read only the text in the HTML and don't run JavaScript. For them, a price list posted as an image, or text that only appears after an animation, simply doesn't exist.

Have you checked whether robots.txt or your hosting settings block AI crawlers?
Why it matters

Some security plugins and hosting firewalls block unknown bots by default. If an AI assistant cannot access your website, it cannot cite it.

Measurement: do you know where you stand?
Have you tested in the last month whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity recommends your business?
Why it matters

Without a test repeated on the same questions, you don't know whether your work is changing anything. AI answers vary, so follow the trend from one month to the next.

Do you have Google Analytics 4 and Search Console set up, and do you know where your leads come from?
Why it matters

Visits from AI assistants usually show up in GA4 as referral traffic from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai or gemini.google.com. Without proper measurement, you see neither this traffic nor the leads it brings.

How to read your score

The score is a guide. It shows how ready your foundation is, not how often you are actually cited.

ScoreWhat it meansFirst step
0–39To AI assistants, your business is almost invisible. The basic details that confirm who you are are missing.Google Business Profile, the same contact details everywhere, Organization schema.
40–69The foundation is there, but it has gaps. You probably appear only for very specific questions.Answer pages for your services, prices or price ranges, real FAQs.
70–100A good foundation. From here on, outside sources and monthly measurement make the difference.Outside mentions, monthly monitoring on a fixed set of questions.

We set the weightings ourselves, based on how much each factor matters in our projects: business identity carries the most weight (36 points), followed by content (32), with technical and measurement at 16 each. A "partly" answer gets half the points.

The score is no substitute for a real test. For that, there is the free GEO audit, in which we run 10 questions from your field through AI assistants, or the full GEO audit, on 30–50 questions.

Questions about the score

Does the GEO score tell me whether ChatGPT recommends me?

Not directly. The score shows how well prepared the foundation is that AI models rely on when choosing their sources. To find out whether you are actually cited, real questions have to be tested in AI assistants, as we do in the free GEO audit.

Are my answers saved anywhere?

No. The calculation happens in your browser and we send nothing to a server. If you then request the free GEO audit, the score is filled into the form only so we know where you are starting from, and you can delete it before sending.

Why does business identity carry the most weight?

Because an AI model cannot recommend a business when it isn't sure what that business does and where. Consistent profiles, structured data and outside mentions are the base everything else rests on. Details in the GEO guide.

How often should I retake the test?

After every major change to your website or profiles, and at least once every three months. The score changes only when the foundation changes, unlike real citations, which vary from month to month.

The score is only the start: a real test shows where you are losing customers

In the free GEO audit, we run 10 questions from your field through AI assistants and tell you who gets cited instead of you.
